iOS hacker and the mind behind the upcoming iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak, Pod2g, has posted something different than his usual updates. Recently, he has been posting updates on the upcoming iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak, but his latest post is about the importance of jailbreaking and what it shouldn’t be used for.

Saurik, similarly, had posted a long note on why jailbreaking is essential for an iOS device user. Of course, this isn’t as lengthy as his note, but Pod2g did manage to include all the important points in his post. The post is simply titled ‘Why Jailbreak’ and mentions how jailbreaking can give your iDevice more potential. You can get loads of tweaks that modify the iOS user experience, change how you move around the OS etc. You also can, play games that otherwise can’t be played on a regular iPhone, have complete access to your device in root mode and much more! He also states that jailbreaking is not meant to be used for pirating App Store apps and that he’s completely against it.

Why jailbreak ?

There are multiple reasons to jailbreak, including :
  • changing the iOS experience with powerful tweaks that can’t ever exist on the AppStore : SBSettings, WinterBoard, IntelliScreenX, LockInfo, and lot of others…
  • playing retro games on console and arcade emulators.
  • having access to a unix shell in you pocket, and all the open source software that can run on a unix OS.
The jailbreak is not meant for (and we are totally against it) :
  • pirating AppStore applications
Also please don’t pirate Cydia tweaks, there are people working hard on these, and the price is usually low. There’s no reason to do that.

To those who are pirating App Store apps, please stop doing so, the iOS hackers will be happy and maybe we’ll even get an unlock for the iPhone 4/4S. Why did you jailbreak your iOS device? Do you use pirated apps? Let us know in the comments section.
